Our History
Following his US Army service in WWII and Korea, at the age of 30, a well-respected Beaufort lawyer insisted that Carl was exceptionally suited to being a funeral director and persuaded him to accept a loan for tuition, room and board to attend the prestigious Cincinnati College of Embalming. Accepting that generous invitation, Carl and his new wife, Edna, traveled to Ohio for a year and returned with a Funeral Director and Embalming license, and a soon-to-be baby daughter, his namesake, in tow. After several years of operating Anderson & Greene Funeral Home & Ambulance Service in historic Beaufort, Mr. Anderson decided to branch out; he designed, constructed, and took great pride in opening Anderson Funeral Home in its present location in 1972. Following his passing in 2004, Carla Anderson Smith took the reins and currently manages the firm, its crematory, and Forest Lawn Cemetery—making her daddy proud.
