Zoe Hatcher Leach Mills Williams Obituary (1931 - 2022)

Zoe Hatcher Leach Mills Williams died peacefully at her home Tuesday, May 17, 2022. She was born to Perry Melton Hatcher and Zoe Gray Hatcher on December 29, 1931 in Asheville, NC. Zoe was a force in Senior tennis in singles, doubles, and mixed for many years and held numerous Southern titles, in addition to USTA national championships. She had played competitively in high school, was the Florida junior and women's open singles champion, and was once the #1 Women's singles player and national champion of Peru (1957-1959). In addition to playing tennis, she owned and operated Fairfield Tennis Camp for juniors near Hendersonville, NC (1973-1983). Zoe was preceded in death by daughter Zoe Anne Leach Conolly and husband Judge William C. Williams. She is survived by children Elizabeth Leach (Chuck) Bohac of Chattanooga, TN, Bill Leach of Smyrna, GA, Holly Mills of Beaufort, SC, Molly Mills (Mark) Williams of Marietta, GA, John Mills of Asheville, NC, 8 grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren and another one on the way. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
