Funeral service for Winifred "Abbie" Abernathy Rodgers, 84, will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2012, at St. Helena Episcopal Church, Beaufort, with burial in the church cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the parish hall. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia and from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort. Mrs. Rodgers died Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Born on July 3, 1928 in Birmingham, Ala., she was a daughter of the late John Linford Abernathy and Margrette Juanita Crotwell Abernathy Braden and Alton Braden. She was a graduate of Samford University in 1952 where she obtained a degree in nutrition. Mrs. Rodgers worked at Beaufort Memorial Hospital as a Dietician for over 40 years. She was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church of Lexington and a former member of St. Helena Episcopal Church of Beaufort. Surviving are daughters, Winifred Rodgers of Irmo, Mary King of West Jefferson, N.C., Sarah Graham, Victoria Tracy, both of Beaufort; sons, Burt Rodgers, Motte Rodgers, both of Beaufort; step-mother, Olga Braden of Hueytown, Ala.; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; step-sisters, Vanessa Odom of Grapevine, Tex., Judy Odom of Jacksonville, Fla., Becky Nicholson of McCalla, Ala. And step-brother, Martin Odom of Hueytown, Ala. In addition to her husband, Edward Motte Rodgers, and her parents, she was predeceased by brother, John Linford Abernathy, Jr. and granddaughter, Colette Donna Eley.
