Wesley Anthony

–

Beaufort, South Carolina

Wesley Anthony, a lifelong Red Sox fan, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in Beaufort, SC, with his family by his side. He was 77 years old.

Born on October 24, 1947, in New Haven, CT, Wesley grew up surrounded by his brothers, sister, and cousins. His childhood was rich with stories—many of which he loved to retell—featuring peeking at presents, crabs being set free in kitchens, and pranks on his sister.

He was the beloved son of the late Wesley Anthony and Isabelle Brown of New Haven, CT, and was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald and Robert Anthony.

A proud Vietnam era veteran, Wesley rarely spoke about his time in the service but took great pride when his son chose to follow in his footsteps and become a U.S. Marine. After returning from service in England, he began what would become a 52-year career with the United States Postal Service. Through snow, ice, and rain, Wesley faithfully delivered the mail and formed lasting bonds with the people on his route—bonds that were a testament to the care he gave and received in return.

Wesley was a man of quiet dedication. He worked tirelessly to support his family, even taking a second job when his children began travel sports. His example taught those around him the value of hard work, commitment, and pride in a job well done.

In retirement, Wesley found joy in his garden, cheering on the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team, and rocking on the porch in Maine. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren—teaching them to ride bikes, taking them on golf cart rides (often with an ice cream detour), and sharing laughs on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

For a long time we thought we would have to say he did not live to see his beloved Red Sox win the World Series. Although after the trauma of 1986, when they did win, he missed it because he couldn't bare to watch the ending. We are all extremely thankful he got to see them win (more than once) in his lifetime.

Wesley loved deeply, and was deeply loved in return.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Anthony of Beaufort, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Michael Gschwendtner of Chapel Hill, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Ashley Anthony of Guilford, CT; and his adored grandchildren, Addison, Seth, Piper, and Emerson.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to AMVETS Post #70, 1831 Ribaut Rd. Port Royal, SC.
