Warren Malcolm Shipes, 96, of Beaufort, formerly of Hampton, passed away on October 21, 2016 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born on June 12, 1920 in Jasper County to the late Alva and Addie Crosby Shipes. Warren was married for 48 years to the late Lois Rivers Shipes. They moved to Paukie Island full-time after his beloved wife's health began to fail. He graduated from Hampton schools in the 1930s. After graduation he worked multiple jobs in his younger years, including construction work on Sapelo Island. Later, he was employed by Boyles Furniture Company and then J. M. Rivers Hardware in appliance repair among multiple other things. Warren was a multi-skilled, hardworking man who loved woodworking and could fix almost anything. He even hand-built 2 pond boats which he used at Paukie for many years. After his wife's passing, his greatest joy was crabbing, gathering oysters and gardening, then giving away what he caught or grew to friends and neighbors. Warren was a long-time member, deacon and choir member of First Baptist Church, Hampton and most recently was a faithful member of Grays Hill Baptist Church. Warren was a humble, sociable, generous man with many friends who touched so many lives. He loved family reunions and social gatherings. During his later years he was a well-loved legend on Paukie Island. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughter Lauren Shipes Ginn (Wayne) of Hampton, step-daughters Jane Jumper Farmer (Jimmie) of Enoree, Lois Ann Jumper Moulton of Florida, Michael Diane Jumper Murr of Beaufort and step-son Ralph Dennis Jumper of Kline. He loved his step-children as his own. He is also survived by grandchildren Malcolm and Jacob Ginn, Scott Jumper, Stacie Jumper Hollenbaugh, Les Farmer, Lynn Farmer Isler, Elizabeth Moulton Urban, Rebecca Moulton, Cameron Harlan Garman, Butch Archer, Carol Archer Vale and Paul Harlan. He leaves 16 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Warren was preceded in death by a step-daughers Patricia Louise Jumper and Dora Susan Jumper, brothers Melvin, Heyward and Seabrook Shipes, sisters Mary Shipes Rivers, Elizabeth Shipes Dunn and a special brother-in-law James Rivers. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26th from 5pm-7pm at Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 27th at Grays Hill Baptist Church at 1pm with interment in Hampton Cemetery at 3pm.
