Warren Hodson, 96, husband to M. Ruth Hodson, died February 10, 2021 in Beaufort, South Carolina. Father to Kathryn (Jeffrey), and grandfather to Kristin (Max) and Kimberly (Maj Craig USMC ret,), great-grandfather to Madison, Mackenzie, Colin, Luke, Ava, Alison, and Shaeleigh.\n\nWarren's childhood was one of struggle. His father died when he was infant and his early years were spent in an orphanage during the depression. He enlisted in the United States Navy as a teenager after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served on the Kitkun Bay and was one of the few survivors of the horrific attack on his ship in the battle of Leyte Gulf. He was discharged honorably with service medals and commendations. Warren later became a draftsman and continued to serve our country designing submarines. His granddaughters will remember happily how he loved playing his Gibson guitar, whistling, giving his grandkids rides on his motorcycle and ride-along mower, and hunting and fishing. Him and Ruth enjoyed ice-dancing and swing dancing in Montana. In his later years, he enjoyed photography and collecting antique cameras. He was a jack of all trades and master of several. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together.\n\nWarren and Ruth loved gardening together and living a quiet and simple life. He was not extravagant. He was a simple man yet complicated. He had a great love for our country, our military, airplanes, and freedom. At 96 years his military service was still crystal clear, and he enjoyed watching silver-screen movies and cowboy flicks.\n\nHe was an imperfect man as we all are, and in his last few years, we have comfort in knowing he was with his family. We have hope in our Lord Jesus Christ that through His sacrifice that we will see Warren again.\nGraveside funeral services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021 in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. His wife will be buried beside him, upon her death.
