Suzan Chase

Beaufort, South Carolina

Suzan Thompson Chase, 81, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday,
March 31, 2026.

Suzan was born on June 21, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of the late
Thomas and Marguerite Thompson. She married the love of her life, Orville Gerrish
Chase II, in 1964, and they shared 51 years of marriage until his passing in 2015.

Suzan was a devoted wife, mother, mentor, and friend. She dearly loved her Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. She was passionate about discipleship and faithfully led many
Bible studies, caring deeply for those she mentored as spiritual children. She had a
deep love for the Scriptures, and her life verse came from Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the
Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

In addition, she spent many years serving at The Beaufort Women’s Center. She was
an amazing cook, and loved gardening, sailing, reading, and traveling. Some of her
travels took her to the Virgin Islands, England, Scotland, Germany, Israel, and Egypt.

In recent years, Suzan resided in Atlanta, Georgia, where she was graciously cared for
and surrounded by the love, prayers, and visits of family and friends.

Suzan is survived by her daughter, Anya Chase and husband Matthew Pieper of
Beaufort; her daughter, Catharine Marshburn and husband Wriston Marshburn of
Anderson, South Carolina; and her son, Gerry Chase and wife Marian Chase of Atlanta,
Georgia. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Chase Elizabeth Able (Guy Able),
Stuart Marshburn (Sonia Marshburn), Avery Jane Chase, Orville Gerrish Chase IV, and
Ellie Chase. She also had a beloved brother, Jeff Thompson, who preceded her in
death.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home in
Beaufort at 11:30 a.m., followed by a burial at Beaufort National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Chase family requests that donations be made to Radiance
Pregnancy Care Center in Beaufort, South Carolina. See link below to donate in Suzan's Memory.
