Scott Duchesneau

–

Beaufort, South Carolina

Scott William Duchesneau- August 4, 1962- February 15, 2024, Beaufort, South Carolina. After a 3-year battle with cancer and kidney failure, Scott, surrounded by his loving wife Julie Nottoli-Duchesneau, his brother Seth, and his two sisters-in-law, Kym Duchesneau and Mary Nottoli-Smoak, ascended to the eternal Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Thursday, February 15, 2024. Born August 4, 1962, Scott grew up in Connecticut, where he spent his early childhood on a farm, raising his beloved chicken “Bock-Bock” and rode his beloved steed “Hojo.” He had a lively childhood with his two brothers Seth and Shaun and sister Sherry, racing bikes through the woods and outrunning Shaun’s WW2 tank he retrofitted to shoot tennis balls at his friends. His family home being next door to the historical home of Nathan Hale, Scott grew up to be a true patriot, inspired by Nathan Hale’s legacy and final words “I have but one regret, that I have only one life to give for my country.” He loved sports and was an avid athlete. He was an accomplished hockey player in high school and obtained an athletic scholarship to play soccer at his alma mater of Virginia Wesleyan. A natural-born musician, he picked up the drums at an early age, first joining the Fife and Drum corps at his elementary school alongside his younger brother Seth. He would go on to drum all the days of his life. Scott would later found and drum for the infamous band “Irritating Julie”, named after his wife, Julie. The band grew in popularity and fame and became a cornerstone of the music scene in Beaufort, attracting a loyal following from across South Carolina and beyond. Above all else he loved his family, his music, and the amazing friends he made while playing his drums. He was fortunate to play with many talented musicians from the Lowcountry whom he cherished, such as Eric Moore (Voodoo Soup), Eric Daubert (Mustache Sidecar), Matt Eckstine (47 Pickup), Edward Walter and Ashley Holland, (Men in Beaufort/MIB) Michael Ponder (Michael Ponder Band) Chris Jones, Keith Karloff, Larry Muhlgeier, Garrett Johnson, DJ Medders, Ben Thomas, and all the other previous members of the Irritating Julie band. Along the way, he made many friends in other groups whom he admired and respected. Scott and his family are eternally grateful to the wonderful venues he would often play, including but not limited to Luther’s, the Filling Station, Uncorked, Shellring Ale Works, the Tiki Hut, Black Marlin, the Board Room, Tio’s, Margaritaville, Wild Wings Café, the Sand Bar on Fripp Island, Fish Camp on 11th and more. By day he supported his family by using his artistic skill as a tile contractor to help renovate and upgrade some of the finest homes in Beaufort. In their downtime, Scott and Julie would love spending time at Plums Restaurant with their unofficial adoptive daughter Li'l Kim (Kim Brodeur). He is survived by his wife Julie, his stepson Sean, father Jerome Duchesneau, sister Sherry, her husband Walter and their children Amanda, Jeremy, Natalie, Robin, and Rita, brother Shaun, his wife Lisa and their children Cory and Kirk, brother Seth and his wife Kym and their children Alex and Liza, brother in law and sister in law Scott and Tracy Nottoli, their children Lauren and Chelli, brother in law and sister in law Jill and Brett Fuller, their children Ashleigh, Andrew, and Anna, brother in law and sister in law Mike and Mary Smoak and their children Jake, Nick and Luke, brother in law and sister in law Jennifer and Pedro Penso and their children Simon, Isabel, Mariela and Sammy, and father and mother in law James and Carol Nottoli. He is preceded by his mother Earleen Duchesneau. A memorial service for Scott will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home, Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 5-7 PM. A Christian Funeral Mass will be held at St Peter's Catholic Church on Lady's Island on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10 AM. Julie would also like to personally thank Keith Hume, Larry Muhlgeier, Garret Johnson, and the rest of the current lineup of Irritating Julie for keeping Scott’s memory alive by ensuring the continuation of Irritating Julie.
