Mrs. Murrell was born on October 12, 1935 in Tallahassee, FL. She is the daughter of the late Cornelius Richardson and Kathleen Barrow Richardson.
Mama was a homemaker. She raised us in a Christian household.
She was always there when we got home from school. She helped us with our homework and always required us to do our best in school. She cooked three meals a day and we always sat down as a family for dinner.
Mama was of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. When we moved from Brunswick, GA to Beaufort in 1969, there was no SDA church here. So mama ran an ad in the local paper looking for other people of the Seventh Day Adventist faith. She was instrumental in forming a group and later in starting a church. She served by working in the "I Care Center" where donations of anything from clothing to household items were sorted and put out for whomever needed them to have at no charge. She also made lunches a couple of days a week for people in different offices. She donated most of the money she made on the lunches to the Church, keeping back only enough to make her next round of lunches.
Mama loved God. She loved her husband, her children and she loved her grand children even more. She loved babies. She loved to go fishing. She loved to quilt and made all of her children and grandchildren two quilts each. She made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for us as children and for most of her girl grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to cook. She wrote out all her favorite recipes and put them in a binder, leaving each of us her personal recipes in a cookbook. Don’t mess with the MAC & CHEESE!!!
Mama was adopted by many along the way. They called her Mama or Mama Ruby. She was one of a kind and there will never be another like her.
It was said recently that it must be nice to have lived a life where you didn’t have to ask forgiveness for anything. That was mama. Kind, considerate, sweet, compassionate, loving, thankful, faithful. She read her Bible and she lived it. There is no doubt of my mother’s salvation. We miss her and we all look forward to seeing her again soon.
Surviving are two daughters, Charlotte Dean and Jacqualyn "Jackie" Sankowski; one son, Gilbert "Gil" Russell Murrell; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one son, Stewart Franklin Murrell.
