Robert Williams

–

Beaufort, South Carolina

SgtMajor Robert E. Williams, 82, USMC, Retired, beloved husband of Roberta C. Williams, of Beaufort,
SC, died Sunday, March 31, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. Williams was born on January 12, 1942 in Chambersburg, PA. He is the son of the late Mark
Williams and Grace Hardy Williams.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Roberta; is one son, Michael Williams (Cynthia) and one daughter,
Melissa Williams; one brother, Mark C Williams; four grandchildren.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1959. Over a career that lasted 26 years, he served and protected the
country he loved. A Rifle Expert and Pistol Expert, he was also very proud of his service as a Recon
Marine in Vietnam in four campaigns during 1968 & 1969. His career took him across the globe, and he
led countless Marines as an NCO and a Drill Instructor. He helped develop Marines into Drill Instructors
at Drill Instructor School.
The Marines Corps recognized him for his heroic service in Vietnam with a number of awards related to
his valor in combat. Never wanting to be called a hero, he loved his fellow Marines and he carried those
bonds of brotherhood with him all his life.
A man’s man and a Marine’s Marine, he never held back what was on his mind, and he never held back
from helping a family member, friend, or stranger in need. As proud as he was of his Marine Corps
service, he was more proud of his family. He loved country music, fishing, shrimping, gardening, and
spending time with his family. He would often say how proud he was of each of them.
When sickness came, he was thankful that God gave him more time to be on this earth. He will be
missed by many, and his friends and family will certainly miss hearing him proclaim “Semper Fi” and
“Oorah.” The love he bestowed upon his family will never be forgotten and will live on throughout his
legacy.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 11:00 to 12:30pm at Anderson Funeral
Home. Graveside funeral services will follow on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 1:00pm at Beaufort National
Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital
and the Wounded Warrior Project.
