M/SGT Robert John Waskow USMC, Retired Obituary (2022)

MSGT Robert John Waskow, 74, USMC, Retired, husband of Dr. Linda Dietrich Waskow, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2022, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his Beaufort residence. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 5-7pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Graveside Commital Service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 11:00am at Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. A private reception for those who attend will be at Community Bible Church after the service. MSGT Waskow was born on November 4, 1947, in Butler, PA. He is the son of the late John Raymond Waskow and Ethel Marie Gressens Fronk. He is survived by his wife Linda, four children, Christian (Robyn) Waskow of Inwood, WV; Kerri (Hugh) Hill of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Cynthia (Tom) Calcaterra of Bluffton, SC; and Joshua (Jen) Waskow of Beaufort, SC; nine grandchildren with another on the way; two step brothers, Norman Fronk of Landsdale, PA and Bruce Fronk (Laura) of FL; and one step sister, Deborah Stitzel (Brian) of Hamburg, PA. MSGT Waskow retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1989 having served 24 years. He earned various medals, ribbons, and citations including the Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 6 Stars, Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with 1 star, Meritorious Unit Citation with 1 star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 4 stars, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, National Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Navy Unit Citation. He retired from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office after 19 years of dedicated service to his community as a Deputy Sheriff. MSGT Waskow was a member of Community Bible Church. He served as a witness for Jesus in the Mission Cafe, his preferred post. He also enjoyed helping others who were in need. It didn't matter who they were, if there was a need and he could help, that's what he did. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Community Bible Church (multiple ministries serve the community both financially and with material practical items), WAGP Christian radio, Wounded Warriors Project, or Navy Relief Society.
