Richard "Richie" Allen Rottet, 17, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from an automobile accident. Richie was born on May 30, 1995, in Beaufort, SC. He was the last of four children to Stanley and Teresa Rottet. He attended Coosa Elementary School, Lady's Island Middle School, and Beaufort High School. Richie was in the middle of his senior year. He was a devoted member of "Project Lead the Way", a club involved in engineering projects. Richie was a role model and assisted other students succeed in club projects. Building, designing, and working with his hands has always been first nature for Richie. As a child, Richie was a member of the cub scouts and he enjoyed the outdoors. He loved going to the beach and fishing. While attending Coosa Elementary School in 2006, Richie wrote an essay about his father and won the " My Dad Is A Hero" award. In middle school, he was in band and played the clarinet for two years. Richie was extremely passionate about animals and remained adamant about providing care for his bearded dragon Harold, as well as the three family cats and three family dogs. During the summertime Richie would take the family chickens for a swim in the pool. Since he was a little boy, Richie enjoyed thrill rides. He started with riding go karts, and then upgraded to dirt bikes. Most recently, he owned Honda Shadow motorcycle and he loved to ride. Richie's next aspiration was to buy a crotch rocket and a black Ford mustang. Richie worked as a bagger at the commissary on Parris Island. His coworkers became a new family to him known as the "Bagger Family", and they were an exceptionally close group. Richie's career goal was to take the ASVAB and join the service. Richie was not afraid to go to war and fight for his country. The beach was a sacred place where Richie could always find his peace of mind. He loved to go to the movies and collect specialty hats. Richie's favorite restaurant was Rancho Grande, but he also enjoyed eating at Chick-fil-a and Subway. Richie was an avid PC and video gamer. Some of his favorites include Skyrim, Gears of War, and Halo. Richie is survived by his loving parents, Stanley and Teresa Rottet of Beaufort; brother Michael Rottet; brother Travis Rottet; and sister Shirley Simoneaux. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort. A visitation service will be held an Monday, October 8, 2012 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. The funeral service will directly follow the visitation at 11:00 am at the National Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the local animal shelters in his name to honor his love for animals.
