Phyllis Nichols

–

Okatie, South Carolina

Phyllis Eunice Nichols 72, of Lady's Island, SC went to sleep and awoke in the loving arms of the Lord after fighting hard to recover from a massive stroke that was further exasperated by ongoing health issues.

Born September 13, 1950 in Washington, DC to the late Violet Elizabeth & Ambrose Joseph Cavegn, she attended both St Ambrose Catholic School and Blandensburg High. She was the younger sister of Collette, Colleen (late), and older sister to Bernadette, Ambrose Jr, Vicky, Daniel II, Jeannie, & David.

She was well known as Aunt Phyllis to any child she cared and caring for children is something she excelled at. She met and fell in love with her husband and high school sweet heart Ralph J Nichols Jr, Sgt USMC and Vietnam Veteran and married him on November 17, 1968. Together the two sweethearts became Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Ralph to any child that came their way. Later on they'd share their amazing love for children by being Mrs Claus and Santa until tragedy struck the family when a drunk driver hit her husband's vehicle disabling him, injuring their son in law and youngest daughter, and taking the life of their unborn grandchild.

Being the faithful wife she was, she took on the role of his caregiver until his passing and continued on blessing children where she could including adopting and supporting the family's non profit The Elf Mission done in her late husband's memory and will now honor her memory as well.

Phyllis was known by her family and friends for her heart of gold, amazing cooking and baking skills. There isn't one among us who hadn't begged for a taste of Phyllis's Famous Fudge or a cookout complete without her potato salad. You just had to be there. "Philly" made it taste so good!

She is survived by her children: son Daniel Joseph & wife Jessie, daughter Erin Elizabeth & husband Kevin, son Paul Joseph and daughter Rebecca Lynn. She was the loving Maw Maw/Grandma to grandchildren Meagan Christine, Samantha Lynn, Joseph Preston, Colleen Mikayla, Nicholas Isaiah, & Raylan Colt. She was also the great-grandmother of Alicia Marie, Caleb Lincoln, Isaac Jeffrey, & Jacob Anthony.

Phyllis Nichols's Celebration of Life will be held at Amvets in Port Royal from 10am to Noon on August 4, 2023.

In lieu of flowers the family asks you continue her tradition of blessing others in donating to St Gregory the Great Catholic Church, your local Catholic School scholarship fund, Crescent Hospice or your local hospice.
