Pete Louis Godbey, 72, Retired LCDR US Navy, a resident of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024.\n\nBorn on February 15, 1951, to Hilda (Woerner) Godbey and Pete Ferry, Pete leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary McPherson (Hendershot) Godbey, and two children: Christina (husband Jay) Ackerman and Pete J. (wife Bridget Alzheimer) Godbey. Pete was also a cherished grandfather to three granddaughters: Anna & Savanna Ackerman, and Beatrice Godbey.\n\nPete's educational journey included earning a degree from the University of Cincinnati and obtaining a master's degree from Pepperdine University. His commitment to service was evident through his distinguished 20-year career in the US Navy, serving from 1973 to 1993.\n\nIn retirement, Pete dedicated his time to the community as a Clemson Master Gardener, exemplifying his passion for nature. He was also a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.), Central Christian Church, and New Beginning Outreach Mission. Pete also served as Beaufort County Election Commissioner for several years.\n\nPete's life was marked by a dedication to serving others, both in his military service and his community involvement.
