MGYSGT Ernest Anderson Obituary (2018) - Beaufort, South Carolina

MGYSGT Ernest William Anderson, USMC Retired, 95, husband of Mary Charlotte Merritt Anderson of Beaufort, SC, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his residence. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00am in Forest Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Anderson was born in Sylvania, AL., the son of Roy Roscoe Anderson and Floy M Gant Anderson. MGYSGT Anderson enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1940 and served with the 1st Marine Division in WWII and Korea. He received numerous letters of commendation, valor and Presidential Citations for battles in Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester & Chosin Reservoir. After 30 years of service to his country, he retired in Beaufort. He was an avid fisherman and master gardener. Surviving in addition to his wife, Charlotte, are three sons, Ernie Anderson (Maria), Vincent Anderson (Tisa), Robert Anderson (Lisa), four daughters, Ruth Thomas (Gary), Wanda Rauseo (Mike), Hilda Phillips (Dan), and Bonnie Feary (Carl), one brother, Roy Anderson; two sisters, Berta Ryan and Imogene Anderson; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Pauline Dilbeck and Wilma Hicks. Special thanks to our Caregivers - Crystal Meadows (granddaughter) , Angie Gardner, Debbie Masters, Ashley Pagan and Courtney Matthews for the loving care they provided for Ernest.
