Mrs. Mary Galloway Mitchell, 84, widow of the late Charles Rhea Mitchell, passed away June 27, 2014. She was born August 30, 1929 in Latta, SC, the daughter of the late James Alpheus Galloway and Mary Ella Proctor Galloway. Mary attended Winthrop College, where she was a music major. She and Charlie were married October 9, 1948 and raised three children. Mary was an artist and had a love of beauty expressed in a variety of forms. She had a zest for life that will be remembered by many as an amazing hostess, musician, singer, and painter. Her children will always remember her beauty, love, and affection. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a son, Charles Frederick Mitchell and his wife, Susan Marie, of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Mary Rebecca Mitchell of Beaufort and Margaret Ann Mitchell of Stillwater, MN and three grandchildren Heather Andrea Spence, Christopher Galloway Thompson, and Hunter Thomas Mitchell. Memorial services for Mrs. Mitchell is being held at the Parish Church of St. Helena on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 3:00pm conducted by Bishop Alden Hathaway, followed by a burial in the Mitchell Family Cemetery on 429 Brickyard Point Road South. A Reception following at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mac Mitchell, 130 Old Plantation Drive East, Beaufort, SC 29907.
