Martin "Marty" Darity, Jr. Obituary (1936 - 2023)

Martin "Marty" Hilton Darity, Jr., 86, USMC, Retired Captain, widower of Mary Lou Darity, his devoted wife of 64 years, died Friday, April 7, 2023. Martin (Marty) was a devoted Marine serving 20 years of service (1953-1973) that included multiple tours: one tour in Korea along with two in Vietnam where he led combat engineer operations. Through his life he’s made an impact on many with his passion for fishing, hunting and gardening. He was successful in all, and always had a few great stories to share. He was known by those closest to him for his consistent strong work ethic, working hard right up to the very last days of his life. He will be remembered in his own special way as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Martin H. Darity, Jr. was born on May 26, 1936 in Orlando, FL. He is the son of the late Martin Hilton Darity and Emily Pearl Darity Bradford. Surviving are his two daughters, Martie Kay McTeer (Craig) and Michelle Darity Dimock (John); four grandchildren; Melanie Page Bradham (Ross), Tyler Craig McTeer, Brad Hilton Dimock (Melissa), and Brooke Elaine Smith (Ryan); and eight great grandchildren; Chase Bradham, Carter Smith, Logan Bradham, Owen Smith, Jack Dimock, Coleman Dimock, Jenna Smith, and Molly Dimock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Hilton Darity and Emily Pearl Darity Bradford; wife, Mary Lou Darity; and siblings, Marvin K. Darity, Emily Laurie Hill, Amber Brown, and Sharon Leffew. A special funeral service for both Marty and Mary Lou Darity will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at 11:00 in Carl Anderson Memorial Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home with interment in Beaufort National Cemetery at noon with full military honors.
