Marion Thelma Paulsen Brooks, 94, of Fripp Island, died Sunday May 10, 2015 in Coastal Carolina Hospital. Marion was born October 16, 1920 in Boston, MA., the daughter of Ralph George Paulsen and Helga Willie Paulsen. She graduated Major Beal High School in Shrewsbury and Fedder Secretarial School in Worchester, MA. During World War II she worked at Leland Gilford as a payroll clerk and Morris Bank as a teller. She married Stanley Irving Brooks of Leicester in 1948 and traveled with him for 39 years. Her son, Donald James Brooks, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Marion has lived in Argentina, Rio de Janerio, Brazil, Apple Valley, CA., Stockholm, Sweden, Bogota, Columbia, back to Brazil and lastly Cascais, Portugal before returning on Fripp Island in June 1981. Marion was always interested in club work. She belonged to Jr. Women's Club in California, membership Chairman and Treasurer in Brazil of International Women's Club, a member of American Women's Club in Sweden, President of American Women's Club in Portugal, Secretary and President of Fripp Island Women's Club and member of Women's Auxiliary of US Power Squadron. She was a member of Beaufort Republican Women's Club for 28 years and also enjoyed Monday Bridge Club on Fripp Island. Besides her husband Stanley of 67 years, she leaves her son Donald (Jennifer) of Wilson, NC., grandson Ian of Wilson, NC., a step grandson Noah Burns of Smithfield, NC., a great grandson Dylan Brooks and several nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helene Julia Paulsen Taylor. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 at 2:00pm at Parish Church of St. Helena with burial in St. Helena Cemetery.
