Marguerite Garrett

Marguerite Garrett, 82, widow of Thomas R. Garrett, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in Beaufort, SC.

Marguerite Garrett was born in Barnwell, SC, a daughter of the late Hayne and Alma Whitson Creech. She was a graduate of Beaufort, SC in 1958. She completed her nursing degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1961. She practiced her nursing skills until she was needed to care for her mother at home.

In 1969, the family returned to Beaufort where she and Tom opened their first One Hour Martinizing dry cleaning plant in Royal Oaks Shopping Center and expanded to Hilton Head. She co-chaired the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation Ball and then served as the Foundation's chair for several years. The dry cleaning business sold in 1984 to the Johnson Group of England and they continued to oversee Beaufort operations expanding into Charleston, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and Savannah. Their business legacy will live on through Lexington Dry Cleaning and Safe Harbor Storage, Beaufort, South Carolina with the talented teams of people working there. Her commitment to her family, her passion for the Lowcountry and her love of all things Beaufort is legendary.

Her passions including playing bridge, gardening, participating at her Church and spending time on the beach. She is also known for her ability to sing the lyrics to every song on the radio. She was our own personal jukebox.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marguerite was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Marie Creech. Marguerite is survived by her beloved family including her sister child, Denise Creech (Chris Ward) of Beaufort, SC; her son, Ron Garrett (Elizabeth) of Beaufort, SC; and her daughter Tammy Bryan (Jones W. "Woody" Bryan, Jr.) of Clemson, SC.

Marguerite is survived by six grandchildren including her granddaughter Annabeth Kierspe (Chase Kierspe) of Charleston, SC, her grandson, Thomas Garrett of Austin, TX, her granddaughter, Rosemary Garrett of Austin, TX; her granddaughters, Marguerite, Caroline and Kate Bryan of Clemson, SC. She is survived by three great grandchildren, Sadie Grace, Wesley and Savannah Kierspe of Charleston, SC.
Visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 5 - 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11 AM at the Baptist Church of Beaufort. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, South Carolina on Tuesday, January 17 at 11 AM.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the amazing staff at the Retreat; our hospice team and the many caregivers who stayed with Marguerite during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baptist Church of Beaufort and the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation.
