Lorena Ernestina Bennett Obituary (1926 - 2013)

Mrs. Lorena Ernestina Bennett passed away November 29, 2013. She was born on May 20, 1926 as Lorena Ernestina Celis, daughter of Katherine Spear Celis and John Celis, in Newport News, Virginia. She was the sister of the late Martin, John, Lyle, and Edward "Buddy" Celis. She attended USC-Beaufort, Wintrop College and Clemson University. She married Eugene Edward Bennett on April 8, 1945. She later married Floyd Hammitt. Mrs. Bennett was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She worked and retired from the Beaufort County School System as the Director of Food Service in 1987. Lorena enjoyed making rosaries at the church, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her sisters, Nancy Strawbridge of Virginia and Kathleen of Mississippi, her three sons, Lloyd E. Bennett, Ronald F. Bennett, and Terry G. Bennett, and her daughter-in-laws, Kaz Bennett, Patricia Bennett, and Nina-Martinez Bennett. Her grandchildren are Michael, Greg, Ronnie, Jr., Richard, Robert and Rebecca, with seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 70 Lady's Island Drive, Beaufort, SC 29907. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 5-7pm at Anderson Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 10:30am at St. Peter's Catholic Church with interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
