LaVerne Viola Greenleaf, 85 of 68 Cherokee Farms Rd. Beaufort, SC, is at peace, once again, with her husband of 62 years. She passed Friday morning at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. LaVerne was born in Lorain, Ohio to Florence (Edleman) Wonderly and Arthur Wonderly on February 7, 1928. They were married on March 15, 1948, in Greenup, KY. Roy and LaVerne relocated from Lorain, Ohio to Beaufort, S.C. in 1979 after Roy's retirement from United States Steel. Prior to moving to Beaufort, LaVerne worked as head cashier for Fisher-Fazio Foods in Amherst, Ohio. She also worked for many years as a Pharmacy Technician at Aimar's Pharmacy. Both were active members in Saint John's Lutheran Church. LaVerne served as church treasurer for many years until retiring in December, 2012. She loved music and sang in the church choir. The one true passion she shared with Roy was following Atlanta Braves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Junior Greenleaf and Sister Carol Wonderly Myers. She is survived by her daughter (niece) Catherine Horrocks (Bill), granddaughters Heather Horrocks Smith (Scott) of Seattle, Washington and Lynn Horrocks of East Liverpool, Ohio and great grandsons Dalton Stoddard and Jacob Stoddard of East Liverpool, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at Saint John's Lutheran Church, Lady Island, at 11:30 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2013. She will be interred with her husband at Beaufort National Cemetery. LaVerne financially supported many charities that were supported military veterans and animal welfare. She would be very pleased, in lieu of flowers that you donate to your favorite charity.
