Saint Helena Island, South Carolina
June Elizabeth Meeker of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed peacefully at her home on October 7, 2026, surrounded by her children; she was 84.
June was born to John and Catherine Farnsworth and was raised in Portola, a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern California. She and her family moved to the Bay Area, where she graduated from Los Gatos High School. June began a career as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines, but it was cut short when she met a young, dashing chemical engineer in Los Angeles. Phil and June were married after a brief courtship and then moved together to Cincinnati, Ohio. They spent 56 years together as husband and wife, living an adventure that took them around the world before retiring to the Low Country of South Carolina some 30 years ago.
She was a loving mother who supported her kids and their many activities, rarely missing a game, concert, play, or program. She was a doting grandmother who found joy in spending time with her three grandchildren (and cooking them casseroles!). June never met a stranger and made lifelong friends wherever she went; she delighted in opportunities to get together and stay in touch with old friends and new. Stories of her kindness, hospitality, generosity, and thoughtfulness are too numerous to count. She loved hosting family gatherings, Bible studies, Island Friends groups, and PEO meetings at her home.
June was a long-time member of Sea Island Presbyterian Church, where she used her gifts of care and service as a Deacon. Wherever she was, whoever she met, June left an indelible mark of love.
June is survived by her three children: Matt (Catherine) Meeker, Andy (Jeri Lyn) Meeker, and Beth Ethier; her three grandchildren: Mike Gompper, Abby Meeker, and Alex Meeker; and other family members and friends.
A service in witness to the Resurrection and in celebration of June’s faith and life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 23rd, at Sea Island Presbyterian Church in Beaufort, SC, with a reception to follow at the Dataw Island Club.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be directed to Sea Island Presbyterian Church or Friends of Caroline Hospice.
