Judith Gay Amrose Mashburn, 81, of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, died peacefully on Saturday, August 27th 2016 at the home she shared with her spouse of 31 years, Les. Judy was born on August 28, 1934 in Plainfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Lawrence James Amrose and Claire Alice Huff. She grew up enjoying fishing and camping on the shore with her brother, Lee. She graduated from North Plainfield High School and attended Jersey City Medical Center, where she studied to be an x-ray technician. In 1966, she moved to Emerald Isle, where she served as Town Clerk. She met Les Mashburn, and they moved to St. Helena Island in the late 70s and married. They became involved in activities in the area, operating a shrimp boat called the "Miss Kitty" and ultimately starting a boat trailer repair and sales business, Mashburn's Boat Trailer Sales and Service, which they operated until late July 2016. Judy loved South Carolina, enjoying photographing the beautiful scenery and birds and raising lemons and grapefruit. As an Italian descendant, she loved good food and cooking for her family. Her biggest passion, however, was football, and was an avid New York Giants fan. Judy is survived by her husband, Lester E. Mashburn of the home; children, Michael Loderstedt and spouse Lori; Susan Johnson; Thomas Loderstedt and spouse Tami; Dianna Downey and spouse Bill; Kenneth Mashburn and spouse Rachael; and Keith Mashburn and spouse Wendy; her brother, Lawrence Lee Amrose and spouse Barbara, sister-in-law, Dorothy Mashburn, and 13 grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Friends of Caroline Hospice, who provided Judy with tender and thoughtful support, and would encourage donations in lieu of flowers at 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery.
