Joseph Robert Wilson, Jr (Joey), the son of Joseph, Sr. and Ida Gougeon, was born August 1, 1945, in the Bronx, New York. He was raised in Hollywood, Florida and loved playing baseball with his church friends and little brother. Joseph joined the Navy after high school and served as a Dental Technician stationed with the Marines.\nIn 1966, he met the love of his life, Kathy Carter, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina while they were both on vacation. They were married in March of 1967. After a few years living near his family in Michigan, they moved to Kershaw, South Carolina in 1971. Joey and Kathy had one daughter, Stephanie Bailey (Thaddeus aka Buddy) and then adopted James Wilson (Julie) and Wendy Wilson in 1984. Joey worked as a foreman and middle management at CP&L most of his adult life and was a wonderful carpenter. Joey loved golf and fishing, especially surf fishing, at Myrtle Beach, however, his most favorite pastime was swimming and grilling in the backyard surrounded by his six grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was very giving to anyone in need.\nJoey and Kathy moved close to Bluffton, South Carolina to be near their daughter in 2005. He was a member of Red Dam Baptist Church in Hardeeville, South Carolina and enjoyed his retirement fishing off the Broad River Bridge and babysitting his grandchildren as often as possible.\nJoey was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, his three children, and his six grandchildren: Victoria Rogers (Jeremy), Jessica Bailey, Rebecca Reeves, Joseph Bailey, Jessamine Wilson and Jacob Wilson; and his siblings, John Gougeon (Beth) and Patricia Marley (Dan).\nA visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. followed by US Navy military honors and a funeral service at 12:00 noon at Red Dam Baptist Church.
