English Version:
Our beloved Josefa Melendez, 74, a resident of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and closest loved ones at the home of her granddaughter, Tahiry Flores. Born on March 29, 1952, Josefa was a generous and resilient woman. She fought tirelessly for her family and for the well-being of everyone around her. She loved deeply and lived her life with honesty, strength, and a heart full of love.
If anyone ever came to Josefa’s home, they never left hungry. As soon as you walked through the door, you could smell the delicious food she had prepared with love and with that special touch that only she knew how to give. Her home was always filled with food, laughter, affection, and joy. Alongside her daughter, Marlen Flores, and her son-in-law, Francisco Luna, she created a home where everyone was welcome and where there was always room for one more at the table.
Josefa was a patient mother, a loving grandmother, and a caring great-grandmother. She had such a big heart that everyone around her felt like part of her family. To many, she will always be lovingly remembered as “Mamá Chepa,” a name that represents the affection, warmth, and love she shared with so many.
One of the things she enjoyed most was dancing with her great-grandchildren. She never needed a special occasion to celebrate life; a song, her loved ones, and a little bit of joy were enough to bring a smile to her face and allow her to enjoy the moment. Those dances, her laughter, and the love she shared with her great-grandchildren will be memories they carry with them forever.
Her vibrant spirit, generosity, and special way of making every person she met feel loved left a deep impression on all of us. Her presence filled our homes with joy, and her love will remain one of the greatest gifts she left behind. Although her passing leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, we thank God for the time He allowed us to share with her. Now she rests with the Lord, in peace and without pain, and her memory will live forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her three children: Marlen Flores Melendez, Sadia Flores Melendez, and Bryan Melendez, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were blessed to know and love her.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The burial service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Both services will take place at Anderson Funeral Home, 611 Robert Smalls Pkwy, Beaufort, SC 29906.
Josefa, “Mamá Chepa,” you will always live in our hearts. Your love, your cooking, your hugs, your dancing, and your joy will remain with us forever. Rest in peace.
