John Philip Stump, Jr., 81, of Beaufort, SC died peacefully at the Veteran's Victory House on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. He had been married for 54 years to the late Antoinette Mintrone Stump and a member St Peter's parish in Beaufort, SC. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight at St Peter's parish in Beaufort and at St Mary's parish in Oneonta, NY. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm with recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 10:30 am at Saint Peter's Catholic Church, Beaufort with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery with Military Honors. Mr. Stump was born on August 12, 1933 in New York, New York to the late Dr. John Philip Stump, Sr. and Adele Whaley Stump. He was an alum of Xavier High School, New York City and Notre Dame University, South Bend Indiana, graduating (1955) with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He served our country in the United States Air Force. He was then employed by Grumman Aerospace, Bethpage, NY as an Aeronautical Engineer. He moved to Houston, TX as a project manager for the Lunar Lander project as part of the NASA team that put a man on the moon in 1969. He then returned to New York with Grumman, where he engineered flight systems for U.S. fighter aircraft. He and Antoinette moved to Hamden, NY where he finished out his career as an administrator for the State of New York, in Oneonta. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three sons, Michael, Christopher and Stephen. He is survived by three siblings, Susan McDonnell of Peekskill, NY, Rev. David Stump, SJ of Jersey City, NJ and Robert Stump (Mary) of Arlington, VA. Also surviving are three daughters, Johanne Stogran (Kevin) of Granville, Ohio; Gianinne Loerch (Jeffrey) of Richmond Heights, Ohio and Jennifer Pelton (Carl) of Baltimore, MD; two sons, John P. Stump, III (Cathy) of Beaufort, SC, Daniel Stump of Delhi, NY; adoring grandfather of Jessica, Christopher (Liz), Andrew(Macy), Nicholas (Nicole), Anna, Kathryn Bornhoeft (Steve), Rachael, Alexander, Kateri, Lucas, and Cameron; and proud great grandfather of 4. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name be made to Saint Peter's Catholic Church, 70 Lady's Island Drive, Beaufort, SC or Veteran's Victory House, 2461 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
