John Maag, Jr. Obituary (1960 - 2024) - Beaufort, South Carolina

John passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024 with his family by his side. Born in Beaufort, SC on March 29, 1960, John was a lifelong resident of Beaufort. He graduated from Beaufort High School and went on to study Machine Tool Technology at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. He was a Computer Numerically Controlled Machine Operator at Minster Automation for over 20 years. John was also a woodworker with exceptional skills at making anything from furniture to jewelry boxes. Anyone who knew John knew him to be an avid lover of guitars. He loved playing the blues and he collected numerous guitars over the years. Music and guitars were one of his biggest passions in life. John cherished his family and was affectionately known as “Uncle” by all of his nieces and nephews. John had a unique personality with a strong will who did things his own way, in his own time, and lived life as such until the end. He also had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He also had a special place in his heart for Higgins, his fluffy feline companion. John was predeceased by his mother, Hilda Maag from Beaufort, South Carolina and his father John Maag from Kingston, Ohio. He is survived by his sister Susan Disbrow and her husband Douglas of Carlisle, PA; two nieces, Tamra (Josh) Thompson and Allison Disbrow (Dakota Smith); two nephews, Frank Disbrow and Scott (Erin) Disbrow; four great nieces, Britt Reynolds, Harper Thompson, Alexandra Kerrick, and Maggie Reichart; three great nephews, Damian Disbrow, Liam Thompson, and Beckett Thompson (all of Carlisle, PA.); and one Aunt, Martha Ann Gramling of Kingston, Ohio. He is also survived by Eric Cook, his brother through friendship for over forty years; Robin Moore, his close personal friend and constant companion during his last days; and Patti Mason, his caregiver and dear friend. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff, and Dr. Jeff Poling at the Friends of Caroline Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for John during his final days and also for the support they provided to his family.
