John W. Hultquist, Jr., 74, died January 26, 2018 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, SC after a short illness. John was born on October 21, 1943 in Red Wing, MN to the late John Willard and Arleen Barker Hultquist. He graduated with a business degree from the University of Minnesota in 1965 and had a successful career in sales until his retirement in 2012. John married the love of his life, Judy, on September 5, 1964 and they went on to raise two daughters and two sons. John and Judy moved to Beaufort in 2001 after living several years in Cincinnati, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia, and right away were involved in their church. Upon his retirement, he became involved in Capa's Closet and Kirk Night and Family Promise at his church. He was an avid golfer from a very young age and won several awards and golf tournaments throughout the years. John was very proud of being a member of the PGA (Presbyterian Golf Association). One of his greatest passions in recent years was his shop inside Bay Street Treasures in Beaufort. He loved the thrill of the hunt for treasures and refinishing them for sale. John gained many friends in this endeavor and loved every moment of this passion. John is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Kirsten Agne (Todd), Lea Blanchard (Warren), John Hultquist, III (Debbie) and Mathew Hultquist (Jennifer); his 10 grandchildren, Will, Maddie, Drew, Claire, Nathan, Joel, Mathew, Lindsay, Jacob and Josh who adored him to no end. He is also survived by his two sisters, Betty Spiker (Hank) and Marcy Hultquist. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Sea Island Presbyterian Church. A gathering of friends will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Family Promise program at Sea Island Presbyterian Church.
