Harbor Island, South Carolina " John Jack Lucius Fritze, age 77, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in his home on Harbor Island. A Witness to the Resurrection service will be held at Sea Island Presbyterian Church, 81 Ladys Island Drive at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 30 followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 3:00"5:00 p.m., at the Beach and Racquet Club on Harbor Island. Mr. Fritze was the youngest son of J. Ralph Fritze and Alice Parr Fritze. He was born March 25, 1934 in Oak Park, Illinois. A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, he served as deacon, elder and choir member in 3 churches and 2 Presbyteries. He was a member of Vineville Presbyterian Church in Macon GA and a founding member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Macon GA. After retiring to Harbor Island SC, he faithfully served Sea Island Presbyterian Church. Mr. Fritze graduated from Riverside High School in Riverside Illinois. He received a Chemical Engineering degree from Purdue University. Upon graduation he worked for B.F Goodrich Chemical in Avon Lake, Ohio before joining the U.S. Navy where he graduated from OCS. He served at the Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren VA and was Honorably Discharged after 3 years of service. His career as an engineer began with Armstrong Cork Company in Lancaster PA and transferred to Macon GA. He served as Project Manager and Senior Internationl Project Manager for Freeport Kaolin/Englehard Corporation. He lived 3 years in Germany and worked on all continents except Antarctica. Mr. Fritze was a member of many civic organizations including Habitat for Humanity in Macon and Beaufort, The Macon Elks Lodge, Harbor Island Turtle Patrol and the Harbor Island Owners Association. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of nearly 54 years, LaVonna Vonnie Klampe Fritze; 3 sons and their families, James and Denise Fritze, Jimmy and Maggie of Macon GA, Dan and Katie Fritze, Andrew, Caroline and William of Columbia SC, David and Susan Fritze, Elizabeth, Meghan and Mary Kate of Ball Ground Ga; brother and wife, Bill and Sis Fritze of Heslett MI; sister-in-law and husband, Kitty and John Slazas of West End NC; cousins Dick and Gwen Fritze of Birmingham AL, Vicki and Jerry Howell of Show Low AZ; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of MUSC and THA Group for care given during Mr. Fritzes illness.
