Joann Naus Obituary (1939 - 2025) - Beaufort, South Carolina

Joann H. Naus, while lovingly surrounded by her devoted husband and close friends, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, South Carolina. Joann was born on October 15, 1939, in Hazelton, PA, the daughter of the late Anthony and Carolyn (Riedlinger) Hyde. She married the love of her life in September 1972, James H. Naus, Jr., embarking on a life full of love and many blessings. Joann worked for National Geographic and had the opportunity to work with Jacques Cousteau. As a flight attendant she flew with Capital Airlines, which was later acquired by United Airlines, and often flew Admiral Hyman Rickover, known as the father of the U.S. Nuclear Navy. Joann loved to dance. And one fun, and not-so-well known fact is that when she was a teen, she appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand with a group of her friends. After having children, Joann dedicated her time to her family and was known as a loving and wonderful homemaker. She spent the rest of her life committed to her vocation as a wife and mother, which was most important to her. Joann was known for her smile that would light up a room and a sense of humor that would brighten your day. She had the singing voice of an angel, a way with flowers and plants, and a tennis game that would make anyone jealous. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She enjoyed decorating her home and others came to her for advice and recommendations. Joann was outgoing, always enjoyed meeting and getting to know new people. Joann was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and loved continuously learning about and sharing her Catholic faith with others. Survivors include: her husband: James H. Naus, Jr.; children: Derek Naus and Lisa White; grandchildren: Brayden Naus and Ashley White; great grandchildren: Arriana, Isabella, and Olivia. She has two surviving sisters: Carol Drewniak and Gloria Hause. She is preceded in death by her brother George Hyde, and half-brother Anthony “Sonny” Hyde. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lady’s Island, SC on Thursday, February 20th at 11am, with a reception at the St. Peter’s Social Hall immediately following the committal service. All are welcome to attend. Family and friends are invited to stop by the Naus’s residence later that afternoon or in the days to follow, to visit with the Naus family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to these organizations which were important to Joann; St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the American Heart Association, or the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
