Joann Bright

Joann Marie Bright, a dedicated, spirited, witty, and generous woman, passed away on June 8, 2023. Born on March 30, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH, Joann spent her life spreading love and laughter to everyone she met. As Henry Ward Beecher once said, "The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers but for the wide world's joy." Joann truly embodied this quote, and her light touched the lives of all who knew her.

Joann's life was a testament to her love for her family and her community. She was a devoted military wife to Gary Sr., a retired Gunnery Seargent in the United States Marine Corps, and a loving mother to Gary, Jr., Shelley, Malissa, and Deanna as they traveled to many duty stations around the United States. Throughout her life, Joann's passion for helping others was evident in every aspect of her work. As a dedicated homemaker and business owner, she managed the Parris Island Thrift Shop, opened The Bright Spot Thrift & Consignment Shop, and became a beloved figure in her community as the "Avon Lady." She and Gary also shared a love for square dancing, joining the Beaufort Squares and the Low Country Twirlers Dance Clubs. Joann's zest for life extended to her hobbies, which included cake decorating, working puzzles, taking cruises, bargain shopping, and playing dominoes with friends and family.

Although preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Carletta Miller, Joann's legacy lives on through her husband, son, daughters, and many grand- and great-grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. A public visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, 6:00-8:00 pm EDT, followed by a funeral service on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 11:00 am EDT at the same location. A graveside service will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm EDT.
