J. W. "Fudge" Holland, Jr. Obituary (1932

MGYSGT J.W. "Fudge" Holland Jr. USMC (Retired), 90, died Saturday, May 14, 2022 at his Beaufort, SC home, surrounded by his family. J.W. is survived by his wife of 70 years, Emma Sue Holland; two of his three children, Connie Pearce of Port Royal, SC and Steven Holland of Norfolk, VA; his five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jefferson Andrew Washington Holland and Rose Della Holland of Dutton Alabama, and by his elder son Jerry Holland of Orlando, FL. J.W. was born January 18, 1932 in Dutton, AL. He enlisted in the Marine Corps February 14, 1952, retired from active service May 24, 1973, and joined the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War years, his numerous service awards include the Purple Heart Medal, Korean Service Medal (w/3 Stars) and United Nations Medal for Korean Service. Following his Marine Corps service, J.W. briefly worked for the U.S. Defense Contractor National Water Lift Company before leaving to once again serve his country and the Marine Corps as a Civil Service employee. He retired from Civil Service in January 1994 and was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal. J.W. loved fishing and his rather large vegetable garden "hobby", but most of all, as a longtime member of Gray's Hill Baptist Church, he cherished his relationship with God. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 9:30-10:30am at Gray's Hill Baptist Church in Beaufort, SC followed by a memorial service and celebration of life at the Church from 10:30-11:30. At Noon, an internment service with full military honors will take place at the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC followed by a luncheon at Gray's Hill Baptist Church at 1:15pm.
