Herman A. Peeples, 96, of Gardens Corner, SC and widower of Erma Lee Smith Peeples, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 5-7pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 1:00pm at Hopewell Baptist Church, Hampton, SC with interment in the churchyard. Mr. Peeples was born on April 13, 1916 in Hampton, SC. He is the son of the late Harry H. Peeples and Elee Jarrell Peeples. He served in the U S Civilian Conservation Corps with company #4466, York, SC from 1935 through 1939 having worked on Hunting Island State Park. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, having served with the 1732nd Engineer Service Company in Iran as a PFC (barber) aboard ship. He was a member of the Mt. Mariah Masonic Lodge # 196 in Yemassee, SC for over 60 years. He was the owner and proprietor of Peeples General Store and Wrecker Service in Gardens Corner from 1945 until 1990. He was also an avid antique car collector and in retirement, repaired clocks as a hobby. He is survived by his daughter, Marlene P. Handrinos ( Jim) and a son, Herman S. Peeples (Marina). Five grandchildren, Jay Lovell, Lisa Melvin, Ashley Peeples, Dana Peeples, and Renee Clark. Ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
