Herman D. Godwin, 78, of Burton, SC went to be with his Lord Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side. Mr. Godwin was born on July 20, 1935 in St. Stephens, SC. He is the son of the late Rev. Arthur Clifton Godwin and Bessie Gaskins Godwin. Mr. Godwin was a member of the Beaufort Church of God. He served in the 51st Infantry Division of the Beaufort National Guard for 8 years. He worked in many different fields before he found his passion, which was shrimping. He was the Captain of the "Charlie O" until he became disabled. He and his wife, Mary Nell, also operated Godwin Mobile Home Park for over 40 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Nell Godwin, who cared for him with unwaivering devotion until he took his last breath; also survived by his daughters, Cheryl(Rick) White and Robin Harmon; two grandchildren, Teena Harmon and Timothy White; two great grandchildren, Hayden and Crystal Day. Also one brother, Rev. Cordell Godwin and many nieces and nephews, who dearly loved their "Uncle Herman". The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 6-8pm at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Beaufort Church of God with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
