Beaufort, South Carolina
Mr. Henry James Barber (Jim), son of James and Carolyn Barber, was born on February 11, 1941, in Waycross Georgia and was sent to his eternal home in Heaven on May 10, 2025, in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Sports brought him to Atlanta, Georgia where he played football under Coach Bobby Dodd at Georgia Tech, and met his wife, Sylvia. He served honorably in the US Army, obtaining the rank of Captain. He began his sales career with Owens Corning Fiberglass and retired from Springs Industries in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Jim enjoyed skiing and biking with his dear friends. He moved to Beaufort South Carolina to be closer to family and enjoyed cruises with his wife and family. He was an avid tinkerer and always asked thought-provoking questions. He never missed an opportunity to meet someone new and shake their hand. He loved to tell them how special they were and that he was blessed for meeting them. He was an active member of The Baptist Church of Beaufort and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Jim is survived and missed by his loving wife Sylvia of 60 years, his children Jim (Jessica), Elizabeth (Todd), and Brad (Angie), his grandchildren Connor (Georgia), Ethan, Nick, Emma, Mary Amelia, Elaina, and Clara, and one sister-in-law, Pat Barber. They carry with them the spirit and love of their husband, father, and grandfather, and take great peace with his favorite Bible verse, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” [1 John 5:13]
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David Barber.
Graveside Services, recognizing his military service, will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10 AM. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the Baptist Church of Beaufort beginning at 11 AM.
