George Tedder Rodgers passed away on Thursday, August 25th, at Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 2 pm at The Parish Church of Saint Helena with a private burial at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at the home of Philip and Amelie Cromer, at 162 Spanish Point Road, immediately following the funeral. George was born April 4, 1946 on Parris Island, S.C., the son of the late T. Legare Rodgers and Margaret Tedder Rodgers. He retired after serving 25 years as a building inspector for The City of Del Ray Beach in Florida. George served in the US Army from 1967-1969 with a tour in Vietnam. George was a true athlete as evidenced back in 1964 when he was presented with The \n\nSportsmanship Trophy Award at The Sea Island Tennis tournament "for determination to win, \n\ngraciousness in victory and defeat, acceptance of responsibility and courteous consideration \n\nfor opponents and teammates alike". He lettered in football at Patterson Episcopal School, \n\nplayed baseball and track as well as coached the Beaufort High School Varsity "B" Team. He \n\nsurrounded himself with all of his friends while camping, boating and hunting. Last but not \n\nleast, George was also a scratch golfer winning the City Championship golf award in Del Ray \n\nBeach, Florida. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Rodgers of Beaufort, SC, a son, Shawn Rodgers of Beaufort, SC, a daughter, Angela Russell (William) of Blythewood, SC, three sisters, Gay Rodgers (Rob Black) of Beaufort, SC, Legare Wood (Thomas) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Rebecca Chavous (Larry) of Columbia, SC and one grandchild, Roman Russell.
