Gardner Bowne Miller - Proud World War II Veteran\nGardner Bowne Miller, age 93 of Dataw Island, SC formally of Montclair, NJ passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.\nMemorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11am at Sea Island Presbyterian Church with interment in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2pm with military honors.\nSon of the late Donald M. Miller and Marion Miller.\n1942 Graduate of McDonough Military Academy. From there, he entered the Army Airborne 503rd in 1943 and later shipped out to the Philippines. He parachuted onto Corregidor in 1945 liberating "The Rock" from its Japanese occupiers.\nFollowing World War II he attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. He attended Graduate School and earned his Law Degree at Rutgers Law School, Newark, NJ.\nHe practiced Family Law in Montclair, NJ. He proudly achieved an "A" rating with Martindale-Hubbell, was a Charter Member of the American Matrimonial Academy, Member of the Essex County, NJ Bar Association and headed the Juvenile Conference Committee.\nHe was recognized and published in Town & Country Magazine as of the Top Matrimonial Attorneys in the State of New Jersey.\nHe was a Member of the Montclair Golf Club until he retired in 1993 to Dataw, SC. There he enjoyed golf and croquet as a member of the Dataw Island Club.\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Paul H. Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Norma G. Miller; (6) Children: Gardner Miller Jr. of MA, Daniel Miller of PA, Jeanne Miller-Bush(Mike) of CA, Christopher Brenner(June) of MD, Lesley Brenner of VA and Andrea Miller(Erik) of SC; (5) Grandchildren and (5) Great grandchildren.\nGardner's many interests included fishing, sailing, golfing, swimming, croquet and spending time with his dear friends in the 82nd Airborne and Thursday Lunch Group.\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, Port Royal, SC.
