Freddie A "Rick" Chapman, 73, of Beaufort, SC, died Thursday, December 15, 2022 at his residence.\nThe family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at Anderson Funeral Home.\nGraveside funeral services will follow at 1:00pm in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.\nRick was born and raised in Beaufort, South Carolina. He was a United States Army Veteran, retired from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a road supervisor, was on the Negotiation Team and also worked as an armorer for the department. He attended the FBI national academy in Quantico Va. After retiring from the Sheriff's Department, Rick went on to a second career working as an investigator for the 14th Judicial Circuit Public Defender's office for Beaufort County.\nWhen he wasn't working Rick loved to be in the community. He worked for many years with the Beaufort Water Festival, he was a member of the Rotary Club of the Low Country (where he was president) and a 2001 graduate of Leadership of Beaufort; he also was certified by the state of South Carolina to teach Concealed Carry permit classes, which he taught often and believed everyone should have for protection. He loved spending time with his grandsons who he was "DadDad" to.\nNot one to ever meet a stranger, Rick loved helping both people and animals and would help anyone or anything that needed it. He will be forever remembered for his kind giving heart, his way of leadership and warm welcoming smile.\nSurvived by his wife of 48 years Mary Chapman; one daughter, Mandy Chapman (Ryan); two grandsons, Wyatt and Kyler as well as three brothers, Chuck (Cynthia), Curtis (Cheryl), and Michael (Donna) as well as many other nieces and nephews.\nA special thank you to Crescent Hospice.\nIn lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The American Stroke Foundation, Concerns of Police Survivors or any local charity.
