Dr. Francis "Frank" Murphy Obituary (1940

Dr. Francis "Frank" Norman Murphy, 81 of Beaufort, SC passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022. Graveside Services will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery on August 3, 2022 at 10 AM with Full Military Honors. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Dr. Murphy was born on August 10, 1940 in Brookline, Massachusetts, the son of the late Patrick and Isabelle Murphy. He joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1959 where he served his Country honorably. After leaving the forces, he graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) from The University of Georgia. He also received his degree for Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Clemson University. Dr. Murphy opened his veterinary practice in Beaufort, SC serving the local community for 40 years. During his time as a veterinarian, he co-founded the Beaufort County Humane Society, served on the Board of Directors for the Beaufort County Animal Shelter and served as a Chamber Member of the South Carolina Association of Humane Associations. Dr. Murphy was also an AdjunctAssistant Professor, teaching classes in Anatomy, Physiology and Micro-Biology at the University of South Carolina. In his spare time, he volunteered as a reserve officer for the Department of National Resources (DNR) for 20 years. Dr. Murphy was many things to those who knew and loved him. He was an educator, a healer, a protector, a trouble and mischief maker but above all a loyal and devoted friend, father, grandparent and husband. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones. Dr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Cathleen; his daughter Jennifer Murphy; his sons Justin Murphy, Travis and Christopher Polk; his grandchildren James, Eliza and Emma Polk; his brothers Gerald and John Murphy; and his sisters Judith Daudelin, Mary Michael, Sheila Moore and Denise Murphy. He's preceded in death by his brother Richard Murphy and his parents. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 10AM at Beaufort National Cemetery.
