She is the daughter of the late Fletcher Brazell and Elva Ard Brazell. She and Royce were married on November 26, 1955. She worked as a telephone operator until their son was born in 1957. She then decided to stay home and raise her children. In 1960 Royce's job transferred him to Beaufort. At the time Doris thought that she had been moved to the end of the world'. Over the following years she came to love Beaufort and will be missed by the many friends she made over the years. She eventually joined her husband as co-manager of Nilson Van & Storage. In 1972 they decided to establish Chavis Moving and Storage and several years later also opened Chavis U-Lock Mini Storage. Doris was a former member of The Port Royal Baptist Church, a charter member of The Shell Point Baptist Church, and a member of The Baptist Church of Beaufort. She was a Sunday School teacher, and was involved in the WMU. She loved fishing, water skiing, baking, sewing and crafts. For years, she and Royce also traveled in their RV throughout the US and Canada. She was the happiest during family gatherings where a game of cards brought out her competitive side. Surviving in addition to her husband, Royce, are one son Darrell "Spike" Chavis (Sharon) and one daughter, Jan Torrey (Chris) all of Beaufort, SC; one sister, Evelyn Consalvi of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren, Lea, Ashley, Jennifer, Caitlynn, and Kyle; five great grandchildren, Bryce, Ben, Dixie, Aiden, and Isabella. She also had numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Irene Collins.
