Dolores "Dollie" Maxine Fedorka Obituary (2021)

Dolores "Dollie" Maxine Fedorka age 92, of Beaufort, South Carolina passed on January 10, 2021. She is the daughter of Velma and Bender Potts of New London, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fedorka and her son Teddy who died in a skiing accident in Colorado in 1976 at age 19. She is survived by her son Frank "Buzz" Fedorka, and his wife Mary Fedorka. She has three daughters, Rosalyn "Tinka" Fedorka and her husband, James Judy, Tamara "Tami" Fedorka and her husband, Phil Silverman, Mary Elizabeth "Lisa" Van Horn and her husband, Bruce Van Horn. She was the proud grandmother of 3 grandchildren, Dylan Judy, Rosemary Lyons and Austin Van Horn. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Tulk. Dollie was a graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Education. She was a full-time mother and stayed at home with her five children for about 20 years until the youngest child entered kindergarten. At which time, she earned a master's degree in Library Science from West Virginia University. She was the head librarian at Brooke High School in Weirton, West Virginia for 30 years and retired at age 72. A highlight of her life was the two years she spent in India while her husband worked for the Agency for International Development. He was involved in management of building of one of the first steel mills in India. She immersed herself in the culture and learned all that she could about her adopted country and its people. She managed several milk distribution centers that were sponsored by the Committee on Relief and Gift Supplies of the National Christian Council of India in cooperation with the US government. She met Mother Teresa and often took children home with her to administer first aid when she saw no one tending them. Besides teaching full time, she enjoyed gardening, entertaining, and caring for her family. Holidays with her family, special meals and her beautiful houses were her passion. She grew award winning roses and especially enjoyed Japanese flower arranging. She retired to Beaufort, South Carolina after leaving her beloved WV home and soon learned to love the beauty and the culture of the Lowcountry.
