David L. Young, 79, of Beaufort, SC, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, surrounded by his family.\n\nDavid was born in Phoebus, VA. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He faithfully served his country for 10 and a half years as an infantryman in Vietnam, a drill instructor at Parris Island, and a criminal investigator. Upon leaving the military with an honorable discharge, he transitioned to civilian life. He fell in love with the Lowcountry and has called Beaufort home ever since.\n\nHe served his community with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department and ultimately retired as an Investigator with the Beaufort County Public Defenders office. In retirement he enjoyed time with his family and his back porch was his favorite place.\n\nHis greatest devotion was to his Heavenly Father, his sweetheart, Teresa, their children (Paul Catterton, Cecilia & Brian Hanrahan, Logan & Melissa Catterton), and their grandchildren (Raegan & Cobey McWhorter, Charlotte, Mason, and Isabella). He was a friend to many.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents and son, David Lee.\n\nFuneral services will take place at Cornerstone Christian Church (2301 1st Boulevard, Beaufort, SC 29902) on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. A Graveside Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery.\n\nIn lieu of flowers please make a donation in his memory to The Fisher House in Charleston, SC, or any charity that is close to your heart.\n\nAnderson Funeral Home in Beaufort, SC is serving the family.
