Dave Hershfeld

–

Okatie, South Carolina

Dave Hershfeld, aged 82, of Callawassie Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 7, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on July 28, 1941 to Mildred and William Hershfeld in Baltimore, Maryland. Dave was one of five siblings, including a twin brother, all of whom have preceded him in death. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Gini, and his two loving sons, Matt along with his wife Claudia, and Todd; as well as six grandchildren (Emma, Emerson, Olivia, Tate, Ben and Fisher).

Dave was known for his quiet strength, gentle grace, and winning smile. His calm demeanor and character left a profound impact on those around him. Dave loved being with his grandchildren, sailing the open waters of the Caribbean, scuba diving, traveling the world, and just playing golf. As his boys were growing up, he spent countless hours as an Indian Guide Chief, Little League Coach and Scoutmaster.

Dave had a remarkable ability to connect with others and would strike up a conversation with anyone (and everyone) - he truly never met a stranger. He was also well known for being a master at mixing a Perfect Manhattan and had a reputation for being chronically late to every engagement.

Dave was devoted to the Lutheran Church and was active in many leadership roles and enjoyed singing in the choir for 20 years. He had a dedicated career with AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 38 years before retiring to Callawassie Island in 1999. Upon arriving to Callawassie he jumped into leadership roles with the Property Owner’s Association and enjoyed being active with the chorus.

A private celebration of Dave's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations, in his honor, can be made to FOCI (Friends of Callawassie Island) or Hospice of the Low Country.

Bubbles up Dave!
