Cloide Castle Branning Obituary (1931

A Celebration of Life service for Cloide Castle Branning, 90, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the River Retreat Pavilion in Habersham in Beaufort, S.C. Cloide went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 19, 2021 peacefully at his home with his wife, Patricia, and son, Andrew, by his side. Born on April 9, 1931 in Miami, Florida, Cloide's the son of the late Briggs Branning and Edith Jackson Branning. Cloide proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He purchased Pleasant Point Plantation, Beaufort, South Carolina in the1970s and later became a Vice President of Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island. Cloide's career spanned various entrepreneurial businesses throughout the years. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. His favorite hobbies were sport fishing, duck hunting, golf, and people. He never met a stranger and everywhere he went he brought joy to others with his stories and genuine love. Neighbors who knew and loved him often referred to Cloide as "The Mayor." He had an engaging, witty sense of humor and a loving heart that was revealed through many acts of kindness including his service on the Board of Directors for Promise Keepers, where he became a part of one of the biggest movements of God in the history of the church. Cloide is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia, daughters Margaret Cooke and her husband, Simon Cooke of Sea Pines, Hilton Head, Elizabeth Branning of Hickory, North Carolina, sons Andrew Branning of Beaufort and Dr. George Branning of Dallas, Texas, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
