Clayton Gooding Ferguson, Sr., 88 of Palm Beach, Florida passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11 am with a graveside service at Beaufort Memorial Gardens in Beaufort, SC. Clayton, Sr was born on October 21, 1932 in Beaufort, SC, the son of the late Jake and Ivy (Gooding) Ferguson. He later married Mary Jordan Newton of Hartsville, SC and had two sons Clayton, Jr and Newton. He spent most of his life living in the Lowcountry of Beaufort and Hilton Head Island, SC. Clayton retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas, then spent the remainder of his career in real estate on Hilton Head Island. Clayton was an outgoing, friendly man that enjoyed all aspects of life. He never met a stranger on the Island and he was always smiling. Clayton was a strong, kind, loving and supportive father that enjoyed attending his sons' sporting events, loved boating and water activities. He was the foundation of his family. He spent the latter years of his life in Palm Beach as a caregiver for his wife, Mary Jo, after she suffered a stroke. Survivors include : his wife: Mary Jo Ferguson; sons: Clayton Ferguson, Jr and his wife Shelby Baker Ferguson and Harvey Newton Ferguson; brother: Paul H. Ferguson, Sr of Palatka, Florida. He was one of 11 children so there are many nieces and nephews in the area.
