Charles "Charlie" F. Chaplin, widower of Ann Seigler Chaplin, of Beaufort, SC, died Thursday, April 13, 2023.\n\nThe family will receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 11:00am at Anderson Funeral Home, A graveside funeral will follow at 1:00pm in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.\n\nCharlie was born on January 29, 1938 in Port Royal, SC. He is the son of the late Saxby S. Chaplin, Sr. and Marguerite Vaigneur Chaplin.\n\nCharlie served in the U.S. Air Force from about 1956-1960. He returned home to Port Royal where he worked at the Port Royal Clay Factory for a brief time, before becoming a commercial fisherman full time. The shrimping industry was his heart and soul. He spent many years shrimping the Beaufort waters and surrounding areas. With him as the captain and his wife as his first mate, many times with three young kids on board as well, he lived his dream of being on the water. \n\nTo his old time friends he is known as Possum Charlie. He was one of a kind and most certainly did things his own way. He will be remembered fondly for almost always "Chaplinizing" whatever he could get his hands on. He had a great love for his animals who kept him company for many years after the passing of his wife. \n\nSurviving are two sons, Charles F. (Chuck) Chaplin, Jr. (Elizabeth); James Peto (Petie) Chaplin; one daughter, Charlotte Waskiewicz (William); six grandchildren, Ryan Chaplin (Amanda); Brittany Smith (Josh); J.P. Chaplin (Lindsey); Madi Chaplin; Miranda Coffaro (Gabe); Matthew Millburn (Amanda); plus two bonus grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Jeremy) and Harley Martin (Chelsea). Six great grandchildren plus seven bonus great grandchildren.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Beaufort County Animal Shelter, Jasper Jarm (Jasper Animal Rescue Mission) or any other local animal charity.
