Burlson Walker Lawrence, Sr. He was born October 1st, 1931 and passed away December 2nd, 2019 peacefully at home with family nearby. He was known to his friends as Bert or Captain Bert. He grew up in Bettie, North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He further served his country in the Army Reserves for years after the war. He made his living as a Commercial Fisherman and was known to always be there to lend a helping hand to his fellow shrimpers and family. He continued to do so until the trials of dementia became too much. He fought the good fight against dementia but has gone to shrimp on further shores. Dementia never took his humor, his smile, nor his love for his family. He was preceded in death by his mother Rosa Lee and father Benton Lawrence; brothers Thurman and Elijah "E.T." Lawrence; aunt Tinie and uncle Larry Willis; and granddaughter Hannah Hammaker. He is continuing to inspire and is deeply missed by his surviving family. Mary Lawrence his wife of 51+ years; sisters Merita Eubanks and Diane Gutherie; son Burlson Walker, Jr., (Buddy); daughters Rose, Sarah(Becky), and Charlotte; sons-in-law; Steve and Robert; grandchildren; Joshua, Crystal, Andy, Catey, Natalie, Sierra, Skyler, Shana, Serena, Arianna, Lucy, and Becca Rose. The viewing and services to be held at Anderson Funeral Home Friday the 13th of December. Viewing and visitation from 12pm to 1pm with services to follow in the chapel. Burial is to be held at Beaufort Memorial Gardens at 2:15pm with military honors. Refreshments to follow at 527 Eddings Point Road afterwards. There will also be a life celebration and oyster roast in his honor Saturday the 14th of December at 4pm at his home on 527 Eddings Point Road.
