Betty Treen

Betty Treen, 94, of North Forest Beach, Hilton Head Island, SC has passed into the loving arms of her Lord on November 14, 2022.
Born in her grandparents home in Gramling, SC she went on to achieve excellence in academics. She was valedictorian of her Spartanburg High School class. Betty attended Newcomb College at Tulane University in New Orleans where she majored in French and German. While attending Newcomb, she was awarded Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Summa Cum Laude, as well as being a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Betty was a member of Colonial Dames, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and Children of the Confederacy. Her interests were wide ranging, including gardening, history, dancing, material science, and Bible studies. She served and loved her church, St. Luke's Anglican, and served as a docent for the Hilton Head Museum.

Betty is survived by four children: Betsy Anderson (Frank), of Round Rock, TX; John Treen, Jr., of New Orleans, LA; Ben Treen, MD (Marilyn), of Panama City, FL; and Georgia Cole (Lewis), of Spartanburg, SC. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Before arriving in Hilton Head in 1978, Betty had worked as a teacher and school librarian. She ran Plantation Cabinetry before working as a real estate agent with Sea Pines Realty.

Service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church on Saturday, November 19 at 230pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Luke's Anglican Church (50 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928).
