Bertrand Cooper

–

Port Royal, South Carolina

Captain Bertrand (Bert) W. Cooper, Jr USMC (Retired) was called home by the Lord on 12/18/2023 from Sprenger Health Care Port Royal. Capt. Cooper was born on January 24, 1932 to Bertrand W. Cooper, Sr. and Thelma Irene (Hayes) Cooper in Detroit, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Lester Frank Cooper, wife Vivian Ann (Parrott) Cooper and wife Barbara A. (Brown) Cooper. He is survived by his children and their spouses Debra L. Cook (Audrey), Dennis W. Cooper (Kristi), Denise L. Domeracki (Daniel) and Douglas E. Cooper (Patricia), seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Bert enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1949 and proudly retired 30 years later after tours in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, and Beaufort, SC (as well as several other bases in the US) before transferring to the inactive reserves in 1976 and fully retiring in 1978. In addition to his specialized work in Air Traffic Control in his service years, he also worked in general aviation incorporating his love for flying into a second career as a corporate pilot.

A proud Marine, you could always count on Bert and friends to have a Marine Corps Birthday celebration at Hunting Island Campground during November. Any Marine was always welcome and the celebration was inclusive of all who served.

There will be a private interment at the National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Intrepid Home Health & Hospice
75 Towne Drive, Suite B, Bluffton, SC 29910 or Sprenger Health Care Port Royal, 1810 Richmond Ave, Port Royal, SC 29935.
