Barnwell Hugh Mixson Obituary (1931 - 2024)

Barnwell "B. H." Hugh Mixson, 93, widower of Margie Connelly Mixson, of Seabrook, SC, died Monday, December 16, 2024 in Caroline's Cottage. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 10:00am at Sheldon Baptist Church with the funeral to follow at 11:30am in church with interment to follow at Sandhill Cemetery in Cummins, SC. Mr. B. H. was born on May 9, 1931 in Sheldon, SC. He is the son of the late Hugh Mixson and Gertrude Long Mixson. B.H. loved people, he never met a stranger. He would start conversations with anyone. B.H. loved sports. He played football in high school. He was proud to be the captain of the Beaufort High School team. He was one of the best running backs. He watched all sports on tv. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and Carolina Gamecocks. He coached from his recliner chair. B.H. loved the outdoors. He worked in his garden and shared his crops with the community. He loved to hunt and fish since he was a young boy. He would turn fishing trips into a competition with Russell. B.H. loved his knock-out roses. He was so proud when they were blooming. He was around trains when he was a boy, so he had a special love for trains. His 1953 John Deere was his pride and joy. We all call it "Putt Putt". He loved his community and Sheldon Baptist Church. He served in many capacities in his Church. He was a Deacon, Usher and Trustee, to name a few. He was a member for 93 years. B.H. was baptized in Huspah Creek in 1943. His passion was anything to do with farming. He wasn't content unless his hands and feet were in the dirt. He was a true man of God and loved his family with his whole heart, and was known as "Daddy" and "Poppie". Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Dean and Janet Player (Neal); two sons, Russell Mixson (Anita)and Barry Mixson (Michelle); eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Friends of Caroline’s Cottage Hospice Care or Sheldon Baptist Church Building fund.
